Program

I aim to improve a student’s chronological spelling age by 18months in a 6 month period on the basis of 1 lesson period  of 50 minutes per week. Only occasionally have I found a student who needed more than one lesson per week.

I use a customised programme to improve hand writing ( see actual case study on right),                                                 and a very successful programme for poor  or reluctant readers.

For the later, this is enhanced if the parent is willing to give a 10 to 20 minute period of time each day to repeat            the reading programme.

Poor performing students after tuition have gained university places, or have gone on to higher education                     in their chosen job or profession i.e. IT or to gain an engineering degree.

                                                        Posture

A good seated working position is essential but mostly ignored in this country. A student of 1.2M tall needs a different working desk/table to chair height to that required by a student who is 1.75M tall. I address this problem by having
an adjustable height seat, and if needed, a foot stool so that feet are not left dangling in space (very uncomfortable!!) I regret that through student time factor I do not do home tuition.

Photos on this site are not of actual pupils to protect their identity.

  Case Studies

Case Study A
A 13 year old student was a trauma birth boy, brain damaged from birth. He also had speech difficulties. He was unable to attend main stream school.
I constructed a speech correction programme and also taught him for 2 years. He was then able to attend a main stream school. He later passed 2 GCSE subjects, and went on to train to be a chef.

Case Study B
A 12 year old boy was having difficulty with spelling and writing accurately.
After a years tuition with me, he was accepted into a grammar school, and at that time ceased his tuition with me.       Within a few months he requested to come back to me for further tuition purely on the basis that he wanted to learn faster  -although he was at an acceptable standard. Later he passed his GCSE's with A, B and  C grades.

Case Study C
Another student although fairly competent, had very poor hand writing and was not making any effort to improve.       His school had told his parents, that there was a possibility, in an examination, that he would loose marks and be downgraded. An examiner was likely to have difficulty in deciphering his work. The examples are a sample of his writing over a period of weeks with me, and show his progress. This student gained a number of successes in his GCSE's.
